Located in the hilly, mystical and famed Laurel Canyon area, this renovation is the epitome of the studio’s approach to mid-century renovation, honoring the deep history of the past while simultaneously creating a modern interpretation. This endless dance between culture and modernity ct becomes the soul of the home — where history is traced through contemporary sentiment.
Originally built in the 1950s the existing home had undergone several renovations over the years creating a confused amalgamation of styles. To remedy this the studio completed a major overhaul sourcing original ideas from the era to amplify only the most authentic design ideas.
The process of careful reassembly started outside and gradually moved inwards. The studio created exciting moments with an outdoor kitchen, and living room. Subsequent phases introduced a primary suite, a new entry, and a surgically inserted second floor. Where the new entry meets living room, a bespoke circular sofa became an elegant solution: a sculptural element that redefined the flow leaving the entry untouched.
The children's floor is reached through a 22-foot stairwell that transforms circulation into ceremony, a dramatic ascent beneath a bold circular skylight opening toward the garden.
